Bad drugs batch possibly linked to Cumbrian death

A bad batch of cocaine and heroin, possibly linked to a recent death, may be circulating in Cumbria, police said.

Cumbria Constabulary said a number of people in the west of the county had reported adverse effects, in some cases needing hospital treatment.

A 28-year-old man was found dead at a property in Workington on Sunday, which officers think may be related to the batch.

Further toxicology tests would be needed to confirm any link, they said.

It is not known whether the drugs are dangerous because of their purity or because of harmful chemicals they may be mixed with.

Det Sgt Catherine Vargas said: "We are, at present, collating all the information from the various reports concerning these drugs to try and identify the source.

"As well as pursuing the suppliers of these drugs it is vital that we get the warning to users, so that they are fully aware of the risks."
