A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson and abstracting electricity following a house fire.

Cumbria Police and firefighters were called to a house on the corner of Camp Street and Fleming Square in Maryport at about 09:00 GMT.

Police said a number of gas cylinders had been inside the property at the time and people were asked to avoid the area.

The 48-year-old arrested man was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The building was declared safe at about 14:30 GMT following an inspection by fire officers and council officials.
