Man jailed over 100mph car chase in Carlisle and on M6

A driver who led the police on a car chase at speeds of up to 100mph in Cumbria has been jailed for 12 months.

Cameron Telford, 20, hit at least four cars while driving on London Road in Carlisle in his uncle's Mercedes, in October, Carlisle Crown Court heard.

Despite two stinger devices laid in his path by police, he eventually joined the M6, heading north at a speed of more than 100mph.

Telford, of Trafalgar Street, Denton Holme, admitted dangerous driving.

He was also handed a 30-month driving ban.

The court was told that Telford was arrested near Gretna, Scotland, by officers from Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary.
