Cumbria Police officer on data offences charge

A Cumbria Police detective has been charged with data information offences.

Det Sgt Jason Robinson, 41, from Workington, is accused of conspiracy to obtain or disclose information under section 55 of the Data Protection Act.

A retired officer, George Nevins, 61, also from Workington, faces the same charge after an investigation by the force's professional standards unit.

Det Sgt Robinson has been suspended. Both men have been bailed to appear in court on 31 January.

A spokeswoman for Cumbria Police said: "At the time of his arrest on 31 August 2012, Jason Robinson was a serving detective sergeant based in Workington.

"He was immediately suspended from duty and this remains the case today."
