Parking wardens return to Cumbria streets

Traffic wardens have returned to the streets of an area of Cumbria, after a two-week absence.

The arrangement whereby Allerdale Borough enforced on-street parking restrictions on behalf of Cumbria County Council expired on 31 October.

Following a new agreement, there will now be four officers on patrol.

Cumbria is one of the few areas not to charge for on-street parking, instead enforcing restrictions with a time disc scheme and residents' permits.

Restrictions in Allerdale's public car parks are enforced directly by the borough council, but the county council is working on a new county-wide approach to parking enforcement.
