Vomiting bug hits wards at Furness General Hospital

Three wards have been closed to new admissions at Furness General Hospital in Cumbria after an outbreak of the norovirus bug.

Visitors have also been advised to stay away from the affected wards.

The illness causes diarrhoea and vomiting but does not last long, with people usually recovering without treatment other than rest and fluids.

Hospital managers said that the controls were expected to remain in place for up to two days.
