Groups in Cumbria are being encouraged to apply for funding for projects which will benefit local people.
If approved, the cash will be allocated from Eden District Council's £50,000 community fund.
Up to £10,000 is available for sustainable projects, and organisations wanting to set up one-off community events can bid for up to £2,500.
The first deadline for applications is 13 December, and decisions will be made in January 2011.
Councillor Gordon Nicolson, leader of the council, said: "It represents a great opportunity for the communities in Eden to kick-start those projects that they know will make a real difference to their areas.
"I know there will be great interest, and I'd urge those who submit an application to make them stand out from the crowd, and make sure they clearly demonstrate the potential benefits for the local community."
