A clean-up operation is under way to remove thousands of litres of diesel from a marina in Cumbria.

Specialist equipment was set up at Whitehaven Marina, following the spillage on Friday.

The locks have been closed to reduce the environmental impact by preventing it spreading into the open sea.

There are more boats than usual berthed there because of the bad weather, and none are being allowed to leave until the source of the spill has been found.

Samples have been taken from all the boats to speed identification.

Emergency lighting was set up to allow the work to be carried on until late in the night.
