Three Cumbria shop raids investigated

Police are investigating a robbery and two attempted robberies at shops in Cumbria on Saturday.

Two people confronted staff at Spar, in Solway Street, Silloth, at 0710 GMT and a purse was stolen.

Two men with a knife threatened cashiers at Bell's off licence in Carlisle at 2018 GMT. A similar incident happened at William Hill in Wigton at 2053 GMT.

One man was held over the Wigton incident and two over the Silloth raid.

Cumbria Police said the inquiries were being coordinated but were not formally linked at this stage.

In all three incidents, balaclavas were worn by those involved.

No money was taken from Bell's or William Hill.
