Cumberland sausage plant to close in Cumbria

Cumberland sausage makers Richard Woodall is to close its manufacturing plant in Cumbria with the loss of 21 jobs.

The company, based in Waberthwaite, has royal warrants for its Cumberland Sausage and cured bacon and ham.

Cranswick Country Foods will continue to make the Richard Woodall brand under licence.

Managing Director, Colin Woodall, was diagnosed with leukaemia three-and-a-half years ago.

The family-run company has held the royal warrant for the supply of traditional Cumberland sausage to HM Queen Elizabeth II since 1990.
