Journey times for Cumbria patients to be cut

Work is starting on a Cumbrian hospital unit which it is hoped will mean a cut in journey times for patients.

The assessment and diagnostic service at Penrith Community Hospital will include four beds, consultation rooms and a treatment room.

The aim is that people living in Eden will not have to travel out of the area for tests or minor treatment.

The work is expected to be completed early in 2011 and the hospital's minor injuries unit will also move there.
