Man held over double stabbing in Cumbria

A 25-year-old man has appeared in court accused of attempted murder after a double stabbing in Cumbria.

A man and a woman, both aged 23, suffered stab wounds during an attack in a flat in Strawberry Bank in Scotby, near Carlisle on Sunday. The man remains critically ill in hospital.

Adam Smith, of Balfour Road, is also accused of kidnapping, wounding and possessing a bladed weapon.

He was remanded in custody by Carlisle magistrates until 27 September.

The woman has been discharged from hospital.
