A 50-year-old Workington hairdresser has been jailed for seven years for dealing in heroin.

Jane Talbot Morton was arrested after police seized £175,000 worth of the drug in raids on her home in Blackburn Street and at a caravan in Silloth.

Appearing at Carlisle Crown Court, Morton admitted three charges of supplying heroin and possessing the drug with intent to supply.

She had been arrested in February by Cumbria Police.

Temporary Det Insp Jason Robinson, of West Cumbria CID, said: "The sentence passed in court today reflects how serious this case was.

"This was one on the largest and most significant seizures of Class A drugs we've seen in the area.

"We believe these seizures have had a significant impact upon drug supply in West Cumbria, as well as having an impact on serious organised crime groups.

"Drugs are extremely dangerous and wreck lives and families."
