Attempted murder arrest after Coventry petrol station attack

A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an attack at a petrol station forecourt.

Police were called to a petrol station on Binley Road in Stoke, Coventry, at around 06:00 GMT following reports of a "disturbance on the forecourt".

A 36-year-old man was seriously assaulted and remains in a critical condition, West Midlands Police said.

Both men are believed to have known each other.

Det Sgt Joel Mildinhall said: "Officers attended and found the local man with serious head injuries."

The motive for the attack and its precise location remain unclear, police said.

A forensic investigation is underway and the victim's Audi A4 car, which was at the petrol station, has been taken away for analysis.
