Woman hit by Warwickshire bus 'critically injured'

A 65-year-old woman is in hospital with critical head, back and pelvis injuries after being knocked into a water-filled ditch by a bus.

The woman and her husband, from Cheshire, were hit by the single-decker on a country road near Lower Quinton in Warwickshire.

The woman was "barely conscious" in the five foot (1.5m) ditch, a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said.

Her husband, also 65, suffered multiple broken bones.

The spokesman said it took about 20 minutes to get the woman out of the water because her injuries were so serious, and as a result she had become very cold.

The couple, from South Wirral, were taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

The bus driver was unharmed.
