M40 Warwick delays in lorry smash clear-up

Image caption The Highways Agency had hoped to repair the central reservation on Wednesday evening

A lane on the M40 remained closed on Thursday after a lorry partially overturned and trapped a car underneath.

The outside lane of the southbound carriageway was shut between junction 16 and junction 15 at Warwick for repairs to the central reservation.

A spokesman for the Highways Agency said drivers experienced delays of around 20 minutes.

The crash happened at about 07:45 GMT on Wednesday.

The agency hoped to carry out repairs on Wednesday evening but wind and rain delayed the work.

Wednesday's crash caused heavy traffic to build up on the M40 throughout most of Wednesday and drivers were urged to avoid the area if possible.

Police said the clear-up took longer because the lorry had been carrying a full load and there was a lot of debris on the road.

No-one was seriously injured.
