Ricoh Arena fire fear sparked by Muse concert rehearsals
A photograph of Coventry's Ricoh Arena seemingly on fire sparked alarm on social media that the stadium was burning down.
The picture, tweeted on Monday, actually shows part of a pyrotechnic display being rehearsed ahead of Muse's rock concert at the venue on Wednesday.
Football pundit Robbie Savage was among the Twitter users to make the mistake, saying: "Terrible scenes".
No emergency calls were made, the fire service said.
The picture was posted by Kate Mulgrew shortly after 21:00 BST as part of a tweet which read: "Oooh fire at the Ricoh."
It was retweeted more than 400 times.
When the cause of the flames came to light Ms Mulgrew responded by tweeting: "Woah I meant ooh fire not 'the ricohs on fire' too funny."
Muse band member Matt Bellamy also commented on the fireworks and tweeted: "We fired up the power station tonight. It nearly blew up Coventry! :)"
A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said they had been alerted to the alarm on Twitter by a member of the media.
'It went ballistic'
Liz Cooper, marketing director from Ricoh Arena, said she understood why people thought the stadium was on fire.
She said: "It was quite concerning to be fair.
"My first thoughts were obviously the residents around the Ricoh so we got a message on to Twitter, but within 10 minutes, with the power of social media, it just went ballistic.
"Everybody phoned, everybody was concerned.
"Muse have got a very elaborate production set and they've got chimneys on stage.
"They've been rehearsing all weekend and last night it was all of the other bits other than the music and the pyrotechnics play quite a big part."
