Funeral for RAF veteran Reginald Cleaver killed in car crash

A funeral service has taken place for a WWII veteran from Warwickshire who was killed in a car crash last month.

Former RAF flight engineer Reginald Cleaver, 89, died when his Honda Civic hit a tree in Brandon.

The funeral, at St John the Baptist Church in Brinklow, was with full military honours.

During the war, he spent time in several prisoner of war (PoW) camps, where as a forger, he helped prisoners to escape.

Talking about Mr Cleaver's time as a PoW, his daughter Jan said: "It was his job to produce metalwork for the uniforms such as belts and buckles.

"They [prisoners] used soap and dust to create the moulds and my dad designed a burner to melt the metal.

"They all risked their lives in order to provide other prisoners with escape materials."
