Polzeath holidaymaker dies after being pulled from sea

A holidaymaker has died after being rescued from the sea off the coast of Cornwall, police have said.

The 36-year-old, who had been visiting Polzeath with friends and family, was reported missing on Sunday morning.

An "extensive" air and sea search was launched at 10:00 GMT, and a lifeboat crew pulled her from the water later, police said.

She was airlifted to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, but confirmed dead on arrival.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the woman was from Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire.

Police described the death as a "tragic accident" and said enquiries were continuing into the circumstances.
