Carn Brea running track site to be sold off

A running track site is to be sold off and turned into a supermarket and other shops, and a new track built elsewhere, Cornwall Council says.

Cornwall Council's cabinet said it had accepted an offer for the eight-lane track at Carn Brea Leisure Centre, and the proceeds would pay for a refurbishment of the centre.

A new track would be built at Redruth School, it added.

The Carn Brea centre, which opened in 1974, is run by a community trust.

The council previously said two organisations had submitted bids for the site. It confirmed it had now accepted one.

Members of the authority's cabinet unanimously supported recommendations to accept the bid.

The existing track would not be closed until the new track was open, the council said.
