Two bids for Carn Brea running track

Two organisations have put in bids to buy a Cornwall Council-owned running track and turn the site into a supermarket, a senior councillor says.

Cornwall Council wants to sell off the eight-lane track at Carn Brea Leisure Centre.

Alex Folkes, portfolio holder for finance, said proceeds from the sale would provide for a track elsewhere and pay for a the centre's refurbishment.

The Carn Brea centre, which opened in 1974, is run by a community trust.

Mr Folkes said the sale would "provide the ability to secure a top-notch leisure centre in the Camborne-Redruth area, and provide a running track as well".

Any bid for the track still has to be approved by the council.
