An injured surfer has been airlifted from a beach in Cornwall with possible spinal injuries.

A coastguard team and paramedics were sent to Tolcarne Beach, in Newquay, at 15:00 to assess the man's condition.

A search and rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose airlifted him to Plymouth Hoe and he was then taken by ambulance to the city's Derriford Hospital.

Falmouth Coastguard said the helicopter could not land at the hospital because of the weather conditions.

A coastguard spokesman said the man's age was unknown.
