A French trawler which was stranded off the coast of west Cornwall after hitting rocks has been refloated.

The Scuderia ran aground at Lankidden Cove, between Cadgwith and Coverack, on Wednesday night.

About 10 tonnes of diesel is believed to have leaked from the vessel, which was carrying about 20 tonnes of fuel.

The vessel has been assessed for leaks and pollution and will be towed to Port Pendennis at Falmouth for repair work to be carried out.

Sixty tonnes of extra buoyancy bags were used to successfully refloat the vessel at 15:00 BST before high tide.

Previous attempts last week and over the weekend to refloat the vessel had been unsuccessful because of the tides.

No-one was injured in the incident.
