Two kittens have been thrown from a car in Cornwall and run over by traffic, police said.

Officers in Falmouth said they were told the animals were thrown from a red VW Golf on the Penryn bypass heading towards Falmouth at about 09:15 BST.

Devon and Cornwall Police wildlife crime officer Barry Nicholas said the person who reported the incident "could not get to them in time and they were run over by other traffic".

An investigation is under way.
