A Cornish hotel that was devastated by fire six months ago is re-opening its gym and spa later.

The leisure complex building at the Falmouth Beach Hotel was largely undamaged.

Managers say demolition on the main site is almost complete and they are now able to open the swimming pool and gym.

Flames ripped through the four-storey 120-bed Falmouth Beach Hotel on 30 April. No-one was injured.

The hotel, which opened in 1984, became part of the Best Western group of hotels in 2000.

Owners, the Evans family, said they planned to rebuild the Falmouth Beach "with the aspiration of being bigger and better than ever before".

Plans for the new structure which will be built on the site of the old one, opposite Gyllyngvase Beach, were shown to the public in August.

The new plans were submitted for planning permission in September, with a decision expected within three months.
