Fisherman has surgery on fingers in Devon hospital

A Spanish fishermen who was airlifted to a Plymouth hospital after an accident off the coast of Cornwall is in a "comfortable" condition.

A Derriford Hospital spokeswoman said the man, who had lost parts of his fingers, had undergone surgery.

His vessel, the Punta Vixia, was about 135 miles (215km) off the Isles of Scilly when the incident happened yesterday afternoon.

He was picked up by a rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose.
