Trewithen Dairy in £1m Cornish milk deal

A food company in Cornwall has signed a deal with a local dairy to have all its milk provided locally.

Trewithen Dairy has signed a £1m contract with Kensey Foods, near Launceston, to provide 75,000 litres of milk each week.

The quiche and dessert company previously used milk delivered from across the UK and Ireland.

Dairy manager Bill Clarke said: "It is a big plus for the economy and the environment, reducing food miles."

Earlier this year the dairy announced that 40 new jobs were being created as part of an £11m expansion.

The dairy, near Lostwithial, which sources milk from local farmers, said it hoped to double its annual production from 25 million litres to 44 million litres of milk, within four years.
