Illegal immigrants detained as police stop lorry in Cambridgeshire

Twenty-four illegal immigrants have been found in the back of a lorry on the A14 in Cambridgeshire.

Police said 22 people were detained at a westbound layby by the crematorium just before Bar Hill.

They are all adults and believed to be Iranian or Kurdish. Fourteen have been taken to Thorpe Wood police station in Peterborough and eight are being detained at King's Lynn.

Two were unwell and were taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.

Cambridgeshire Police said they arrived at the scene at about 10:00 GMT.

Officers originally said a number of those in the lorry had run off but it is now understood everyone has been accounted for.

The East of England Ambulance service was called just after 09:30 GMT and sent two ambulance crews and a hazardous area response team.
