Cambridgeshire guided busway: Woman, 81, killed in accident

An 81-year-old woman who died when she was hit by a bus on a guided busway in Cambridgeshire has been named.

Jennifer Taylor, of Meadow Lane, Over, was struck at about 17:30 GMT on Tuesday near Station Road, Swavesey and died at the scene.

The Cambridgeshire County Council busway, which cost about £80m, runs between St Ives and Cambridge.

It is believed Mrs Taylor and her husband, who was not injured, had been walking along the busway road.

The council said it would co-operate with the investigation. It said it was talking to bus operator Stagecoach and police about what happened.

PC James Thorne of Cambridgeshire Police said: "While this is particularly tragic circumstances, I would like to take this opportunity to remind members of the public to use the guided busway safely and only walk or cycle on the foot and cycle paths where they are in place."

A council spokesman said: "At this time our thoughts are with all those involved in this incident."

Police appealed for anyone who witnessed the accident to contact officers.
