Arrest in Burwell gunshot murder of Jessie Smith

A man has been arrested by detectives investigating the murder of a man shot in the back in Cambridgeshire.

Jessie Smith, 36, known as Jess, of Common Road, Potton, Bedfordshire, was found dead in a car in First Drove, Burwell at 02:00 GMT on New Year's Day.

Post-mortem tests showed he died from a gunshot wound to the back.

A 57-year-old man from Burwell has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm.

Mr Smith's family described him as "a lovely husband", adding: "You couldn't find a better father."

Officers investigating his murder said they were treating the incident as "isolated" and continue to appeal for information.
