Arsonists set fire to five thatched roofs in the space of two hours in Cambridgeshire, the fire service said.

The first blaze was reported in Offord Cluny at 00:37 BST and four further thatched roofs were set alight in Brampton.

About 50 firefighters from across the county tackled the fires and the last one was extinguished by 02:30 BST.

No-one was injured but the fire service warned people to be vigilant after the "spate" of deliberate fires.

Area Commander Rick Hylton said: "This morning we had five fires caused deliberately that had the potential to both seriously damage property and put lives of Cambridgeshire residents at risk.

"We are working closely with police and urging residents, especially those with thatched properties, to be vigilant to any suspicious activity and ensure you have a working smoke alarm."
