A man has admitted raping a 27-year-old woman as she walked to work along a cycle path in Cambridgeshire.

Artur Piotr Kleibor, 22, of Brookfurlong, Peterborough, pleaded guilty to carrying out the early morning attack on 19 May 2009.

Kleibor, who appeared at Peterborough Crown Court, was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on 4 February.

The victim was forced to the ground from behind, throttled and then raped as she lapsed into unconsciousness.

When the woman came round on the path, which runs parallel to Gresley Way in Westwood, she phoned for help.

Kleibor was arrested at his home on 24 September 2010.

'Horrific attack'

He appeared at Peterborough Crown Court and admitted the rape.

He was told he is facing a custodial sentence.

Det Insp Simon Harding said: "This was a lengthy investigation but we were always convinced the offender would be brought to justice.

"This was a horrific attack on a young woman and our thoughts are with the victim and her family.

"We hope this conviction and the sentencing next year will give her some sense of closure and allow her to move on knowing that justice has been done."
