Littleport tyre firm denies charge over fire

A Cambridgeshire tyre firm has denied breaching the Environmental Protection Act following a major fire last year.

More than 2,000 tonnes of rubber caught fire at Murfitt Industries, off Wisbech Road near Littleport, on 21 August, and burnt until October.

Littleport Murfitts Industries Ltd appeared at Ely Magistrates' Court.

The firm denies treating, keeping or disposing of controlled waste in a manner likely to cause pollution or harm to human health.

It is due before Cambridge Crown Court at a later date.
