The first phase of a scheme to build a £2.6m education and enterprise park in Cambridge has been approved.

Plans for the SmartLIFE Low Carbon Centre on land north of the city centre on Kings Hedges Road have been backed by Cambridgeshire county councillors.

It is due to open in September 2011 and will form the first part of The Hive project.

The centre aims to teach skills needed for building low carbon homes and installing renewable energy systems.
