Police seize 22 suspect vehicles in Peterborough

Officials ordered 22 vehicles off the road in Cambridgeshire because of suspicions they were "illegal".

Police seized the vehicles on Friday after they were checked for serious defects or were shown to be being driven with no insurance cover.

Five people were arrested for theft, driving while disqualified, possessing drugs with intent to supply and driving with excess alcohol.

One person wanted on an international arrest warrant was also held.

More than 100 officers and staff took part in the automatic number plate recognition operation in Peterborough.

Checking sites were set up in Alconbury and Hampton and police teams patrolled the city's car parks to check for wanted or law-breaking vehicles.

Officers on motorcycles also tracked vehicles that triggered fixed automatic number plate recognition cameras.
