Water supplies restored to Cambridgeshire villages
All but a handful of homes affected by a burst water main in Cambridgeshire have had their supply restored.
The pipe burst off Hattons Road in Longstanton early on Monday, leaving about 5,000 people in Longstanton and surrounding villages without water for up to 12 hours.
A Cambridge Water spokesman said the pipe network supplying about eight villages had completely drained.
Water had to be rerouted in order to restore the supply.
By 0600 BST on Tuesday only a few properties along the A14 corridor near Lolworth and Longstanton were without a supply.
All had been given alternative water supplies.
The company apologised for the inconvenience to customers, and said it was one of the largest burst mains it had witnessed for several years.
