A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson and criminal damage after a fire broke out at a primary school.

Wiltshire Police said it began at 03:20 GMT at the Avenue Primary School in Warminster, Wiltshire.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service extinguished the blaze by about 04:20 GMT.

Nobody was injured but the school will remain closed while the extent of the damage is assessed, a spokesman said.

The school's head teacher said the children's centre and nursery would be open as usual.
