Yate man arrested by Dutch police after cocaine seized
A man from South Gloucestershire has been arrested in the Netherlands after police seized cocaine worth £2.6m.
The 50-year-old, from Yate, was arrested in Utrecht as part of a major investigation into the supply of drugs in the south west of England.
The man has been held on suspicion of international drugs trafficking, participation in a criminal organisation and money laundering.
It follows an operation by the National Crime Agency, Dutch and British police.
As part of the co-ordinated investigation, Avon and Somerset Police also arrested a 33-year-old woman in the Yate area on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs and money laundering.
She has been released on bail.
Police also searched a number of properties across South Gloucestershire and recovered a large quantity of cash.
Det Insp Charlotte Tucker said Avon and Somerset Police had worked "side-by-side" with the NCA and Dutch Police to prevent "what is an extremely large amount of cocaine destined to be brought back to the UK".
