The family of a woman who died at a care home near Bristol have said they have been "devastated" by her death.

Una Dorney, 87, was found dead by police who were called to Oaktree House, Yate, on 18 June.

Ryan Guest, 33, of Birkdale has been charged with her murder and has been remanded to appear at Bristol Crown Court on 15 July.

In a statement, the family said it had been left "shocked and saddened".

Mr Guest is not an employee of the care home.

Avon and Somerset Police described Mrs Dorney's death as "tragic" and said the family had asked to be "left in peace" in order to grieve privately.

"Una was a much-loved aunt, stepmother and grandmother. We'll miss her very much," the family statement continued.

"We're grateful for all the support and kind words we've received both from those who we know and those we don't.

"It will take us time to absorb the devastating news and adjust to our lives without Una in them."

Previously, a spokeswoman for Oaktree House said it was supporting the family during this "deeply distressing time".
