About 80 staff are to be made redundant at a hotel and leisure centre in Bristol that is to close.

Owner Washington Hotels said it had been unable operate the 112-bedroom Redwood Country Club Hotel in Failand on "a viable basis" for "some time".

In a statement, the company said it would help staff "through this difficult time" and will assist in redeploying them elsewhere.

The hotel is being "wound down" and is expected to close fully by late August.

Customers who have outstanding bookings will be helped to secure alternative accommodation for their events.

Washington Hotels has owned the estate since 2006. It leased the business to tenant operators, three of which have gone into administration.
