M49 closure near Bristol to remove fallen crane

Part of a motorway near Bristol is due to be closed to allow an 85-tonne crane to be recovered from an embankment.

The crane left the M49 on Thursday, and the Highways Agency (HA) said removing it would be a "complex operation".

A spokesman said work needed to be done to the embankment to support the underside of the crane before it could be lifted back onto its axles.

The southbound carriageway will be shut from 18:00 BST on Saturday until 06:00 BST on Monday.
