A man has appeared in court accused of murdering a fellow resident at a home for people with mental health problems.

Rupert Cox, 24, was stabbed outside the building in Egerton Road, Bristol, on Friday evening.

Derek Hancock, who is 41 years old and lives locally, was remanded in custody by Bristol magistrates on Monday.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has confirmed it will investigate Avon and Somerset Police's handling of the stabbing.

The home is run by the Social Enterprise and Charity Home Group.

It said it was shocked and saddened by the death and that the service enjoyed good relations with neighbours.

Hancock is due to appear at Bristol Crown Court on Wednesday.
