Forest of Dean alternative torch relay takes place

Help

An alternative torch relay is being held in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, by disgruntled locals unhappy the official Olympic torch relay missed them out.

A miner's Davy lamp, symbolic of the area's industry, was lit at the bottom of Hopewell Colliery at 19:30 BST on Friday.

The "Forest Flame", which is being carried in a bicycle relay through towns and villages in the area throughout the weekend, set off from Newent on Saturday morning.

Organisers said they were upset the official route did not visit the area.
