Fire training exercise staged in Gloucester nightclub

A mock up of a major fire at a nightclub has been used to train Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service to save clubbers trapped inside.

Seventy firefighters and about 15 fire engines were involved in the exercise at The Registry nightclub.

Firefighters wore blackout masks to simulate the lack of visibility they would expect to find.

The fire service said the exercise was among the most challenging that it had staged, but it was vital to make sure they were prepared should they face the situation for real.
