The largest civil court centre in the South West of England has been opened.

The Bristol Civil Justice Centre was formally opened earlier by the Lord Chief Justice, the most senior judge in England and Wales.

A HM Courts Service spokesman said it would hear cases including business disputes, family law cases and personal injury claims.

The building, near the city's crown court, also houses Bristol Probate Registry.

Peter Risk, HM Courts Service regional director for the South West, said: "The centre will transform the way civil court work is done; rationalising all Bristol civil work into one building and ensuring cases are heard more quickly."
