A pedestrian was killed when he was struck by a car on the M4 between the junctions for Bristol and Bath.
Emergency services were called to the motorway between junctions 19 (M32) and 18 (Bath) just after 2025 GMT on Monday following reports of the incident.
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said both carriageways were closed and have now reopened.
The identity and age of the victim is not known. Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
