Sex crimes fall during West Yorkshire Police operation

The number of reported sex crimes committed in West Yorkshire fell by 48% during a campaign, police claim.

West Yorkshire Police said 13 sexual offences were reported in the county between 14 July and 31 August 2010, compared to 25 during the same period in 2009.

Operation Northdale saw officers advise revellers in city and town centres on keeping safe when out at night.

Anti-drink spiking devices were also handed out.

Revellers were also targeted through 450 safety messages, sent by text message to mobile phones.

The NHS, voluntary Street Angels scheme and the Probation Service were also involved in the operation.
