A man accused of murdering three women in Bradford has suffered "superficial wounds" after cutting himself in jail.

Stephen Griffiths, 40, was treated by medical staff at HMP Wakefield, where he is on remand, after the incident on Friday, the prison service said.

Mr Griffiths is charged with murdering Suzanne Blamires, Shelley Armitage and Susan Rushworth.

In June he received medical treatment at the jail following an "incident of self-harm".

A prison service spokesman said: "A prisoner at HMP Wakefield received superficial wounds after cutting himself with glass.

"He was treated in the healthcare centre of the prison after staff intervened."

Mr Griffiths, a mature student, of Thornton Road, Bradford, has appeared in court accused of murdering Ms Blamires, 36, between 20 May and 25 May; murdering Ms Rushworth, 43, between 22 June, 2009, and 25 May this year, and murdering Ms Armitage, 31, between 25 April and 25 May this year.
