Man arrested over Smethwick crash in which baby died

A man has been arrested following a crash that killed a baby boy and left a woman critically ill.

Two-month-old Mohammed Isa was taken to hospital following Saturday evening's crash in Smethwick, West Midlands.

Police said the occupants of a Mitsubishi car, involved in the crash, left the scene before officers arrived.

A 31-year-old man from Smethwick has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

Three more men, also thought to have been in the Mitsubishi, have been interviewed by police.

Mohammed had been in the other car, a Corolla, as had the injured woman.

Three more people, two men and a woman, were also hurt in the crash.

Police have issued pictures of the Mitsubishi car, with a number plate of R54 RMW, which is not currently registered to anyone.

Officers said the silver Mitsubishi was travelling along Grove Lane, a dual carriageway, towards Oldbury when it was involved in the collision with the Corolla.
