Eight arrested over Polish lorry driver death

Eight men have been arrested in the Black Country in connection with the robbery and unexplained death of a Polish driver who was transporting TVs.

Officers arrested the men in dawn raids in Tipton, West Bromwich and Oldbury, over the death Bogdan Bartczak.

The 57-year-old's body was found in Vale Road, Derby End, on 1 November. His lorry was found in the Vectra Industrial Estate in West Bromwich.

The men are being questioned on suspicion of manslaughter and robbery.

During the raids on Wednesday a ninth man was arrested on suspicion of cannabis cultivation.

Post-mortem examination

Mr Bartczak's body was found by a local resident on the way to work, police said.

Officers have yet to find the lorry's load of LG LCD 47in (119cm) flat-screen TVs, which were taken from Oldbury some time on 30 or 31 October.

A post-mortem examination failed to determine a cause of death for Mr Bartczak's.

West Midlands Police were keen to trace the TVs and want anyone with information to contact them.
